The Shadow Demon stalks its prey
VegasHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Robert Bullwinkel of ABANDON, to discuss what's new at ABANDON for the 2024 Halloween Season!
What's new at ABANDON for 2024? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?
ABANDON has been completely re-imagined since the 2023 season with MORE Blood, MORE Kink and MORE Horror. Audience members will be thrilled with 30% completely new scary content! Many of the key players are returning with some stellar new talent as well. Many of our performers also work on the Vegas Strip in the Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil, etc.
What are you most excited about for the 2024 Halloween Season?
We look forward to meeting new members of the kinky horror community in Las Vegas! ABANDON has become a cult hit with fans returning time after time, but there's always room for new blood:)
What differentiates ABANDON from other local haunts in Las Vegas?
ABANDON is not a traditional haunt, but an immersive theatrical event that was just named BEST SHOCK THEATRE by the Las Vegas Weekly and given their Best of Vegas Award. ABANDON takes audiences on a terrifying journey through the life and writings of the Marquis de Sade during his years spent imprisoned in an asylum. Delivered in rapid-fire, wordless vignettes ABANDON is a theatrical experience like no other, where psychological terror, grotesque beauty, and edgy kink collide to create a horror production that will haunt you long after the final curtain. This is an experience that will haunt audiences long after the final curtain falls.
How long has ABANDON been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about ABANDON's history?
This is the second spooky season for ABANDONd, the brainchild of director Jana Wimer who is fajmous for her Urban Death Tour of Terror in Los Angeles that has been running for the past 15 years.
What's your favorite experience since opening ABANDON?
Working with composer Joseph Bishara on the musical score for ABANDON was mind-blowing. Joseph composed the soundtracks for The Conjuring and Insidious franchises among many others. A close second was working with sound designer Katie Halliday who won an Emmy for Stranger Things.
How long is a typical haunt experience at ABANDON from start to finish?
Including the immersive pre-show, ABANDON runs about 90 minutes.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say ABANDON is? Why?
Our audience reviews give ABANDON a 10/10 so we have to agree! The humor in the show cleanses the audience's palate so the next scare is even more shocking.
Does ABANDON's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?
The Vegas Theatre Company is definitely a spooky environment!
What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?
I created haunted houses in high school to scare the neighborhood kids, so the desire to scare and entertain people goes way back. When I saw director Jana Wimer's Urban Death in LA it was like being struck by lightening. I knew at that moment that I wanted to work with her to create something completely unique and terrifying.
How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance ABANDON?
ABANDON features a state of the art digital sound and lighting environment, but also features a lot of old school practical effects.
Can ABANDON accommodate large groups? How many people can experience ABANDON together as a group?
The theatre capacity is 76 people.
Does ABANDON offer any special deals, discounts, or coupons?
ABANDON doesn't offer any discounts, but our audience survey tells us that the experience is well worth the admission price.
Anything else you'd like to let us know about ABANDON?
“We’re ecstatic to bring ABANDON back to Las Vegas this fall,” says ABANDON Director Jana Wimer. “The Las Vegas community showed so much support during the show’s first two runs, proving there is truly a place in the local arts scene for distinctive, imaginative, and boundary-pushing productions like ABANDON. It’s an honor to work alongside Vegas Theatre Company, who continues to produce and champion original theater productions in Las Vegas.”
